Why buyers compare Gr2 and Gr12

Gr2 is one of the most widely specified commercially pure titanium grades because it provides a useful balance of corrosion resistance, formability and availability. Gr12 contains nickel and molybdenum additions and is often considered when operating conditions are more severe.

Where Gr2 is usually considered

Gr2 is commonly evaluated for seawater systems, general chemical equipment, heat exchangers, condensers and fabricated components when the design environment is compatible with commercially pure titanium.

When Gr12 enters the specification

Gr12 may be selected where improved strength or resistance in certain reducing environments is required. Final material selection should be based on actual media composition, concentration, temperature, pressure and engineering design requirements.
